Dairy Potluck Dinner

On Friday, July 10, Temple Shalom will hold a dairy potluck following the 6:30 p.m. Shabbat worship. All faiths are welcome. Temple Shalom is located at 223 Valley Road, Middletown. For more information, call 401-846-9002.

Prayer and Fasting Week

From July 20-24, CrossPoint Church invites people to join in a week of specific prayer for the community and the church. Fasting for a meal or an entire day is encouraged. For more information, contact the church office at 401- 846-3064, Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

UMC Saturday Services

The Portsmouth United Methodist Church will offer a contemporary Saturday evening service at 5 p.m. Traditional worship services are on Sunday at 10 a.m. Sunday School is offered for children from preschool through 12th grade and nursery care is also available. Early Worship at the Beach

An early morning worship service will be offered on Sundays through Aug. 30 at Third Beach from 8 – 8:40 a.m. opposite the smaller parking lot just north of the paved parking lot. Pastor Mike and Pastor Federico, from Portsmouth United Methodist Church, will switch off leading the service.

Backpack Drive

CrossPoint Church will hold a backpack drive from July 12-Aug. 16 to help students in the community start the school year off right. For more information, call the church office at 401-846-3064, Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. CrossPoint Church is located at 14 Rhode Island Ave.

St. Barnabas VBS

St. Barnabas Church will hold its Vacation Bible School Aug. 17- 21 from 9 a.m.–noon in the church hall. Registration forms are available at the church entrances and online at stbarnabasportsmouth. weconnect.com. For more information, call the Faith Formation Office at 401-683-3147.

St. Barnabas Mass of Recovery

In cooperation with the Providence Diocese of St. Matthias Recovery Ministry, the next quarterly Mass for those in recovery will be at St. Barnabas, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, on July 19. This Mass focuses on recovery from alcoholism and addiction as well as mental/ emotional distress and anxiety. People in recovery, their families, parishioners of St. Barnabas and the entire community are invited to attend. Members and families of the recovery community are encouraged to contact Deacon John Silvia at deaconjohn@jsilvia.com to participate as lectors, servers, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, and greeters.

Summer Lunch Program Needs Volunteers

For many children in Newport, school is where they get a nutritious meal. The summer leaves a gap in their being able to get something to eat. This year the City of Newport is expanding its lunch program, delivering meals to children at local parks. Volunteers are needed to deliver the meals. ‘Quarter Till’ with Bach and Friends

Take a 15-minute break during your weekends this summer to enjoy an organ meditation of music by Bach and another composer, performed on St. John the Evangelist's Hook and Hastings organ. Watch Peter S. Berton’s hands as he plays, via video, at 8:45 and 11:45 a.m. and 2:45, 5:45 and 8:45 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays until Labor Day. Summer Day Camp

Camp St. Dorothy is taking registrations for its 48th season. This Christian camp for children ages 4-13 is located on the grounds of Sisters of St. Dorothy at Mount St. Joseph in Bristol. Children will enjoy plenty of fun in outdoor sports, games, arts and crafts, swimming, and Bible. For more information, call 401-253-5434.

First Presbyterian VBS

The First Presbyterian Church’s annual Vacation Bible School will be held July 13-17 from 9 a.m. - noon. This year’s theme is “Big Heart Farms: Where God’s Fruit Grows,” and is for children from pre-K to those entering sixth grade. The cost is $5 per child, $20 maximum per family. VBS Mega Sports Camp

CrossPoint Church will hold Mega Sports Camp for children in kindergarten through 6th grade from July 13-17 at the Florence Gray Center, 1 York St. The sports offered are basketball, baseball, and cheerleading. An art class is also offered as a fun alternative. Pre-registration requested. The cost to attend is $10 per child.
