Fourth of July Fun

The Officers’ Club will hold a Fourth of July celebration from 4-10 p.m., with live musical entertainment and a barbecue with the traditional favorites. The Newport fireworks will be visible from the O’Club deck and all hands with base access are welcome to attend. For more information, call 401-841- 1442.

Chair Exercise

There will be a chair exercise class in the Naval Health Clinic New England (NHCNE) McWilliams Conference Room on Tuesday, July 7, at 9 a.m. Chair exercises are ideal for people with lower body injuries or disabilities, those with weight problems or diabetes, and frail seniors looking to reduce their risk of falling. Cardiovascular and flexibility chair exercises can help improve posture and reduce back pain, while any chair exercise can help alleviate body sores caused by sitting in the same position for long periods.

A Certified Personal Trainer from the John H. Chaffee Fitness Center will be the instructor.

Patients are requested to get a medical provider referral to NHCNE Wellness to facilitate accommodation. Call Leslie Johnson at 401- 841-6771 for signup or questions.

Fun Fitness Fridays for Youth

Military youth ages 6 and up are invited to free movement and fitness classes Fridays, July 10, 17, and 24 at 10 a.m. in Warwick. The classes are offered through the Rhode Island National Guard Child and Youth Program. Registration is requested by July 3. NHCNE Holiday Hours

Naval Health Clinic New England will be closed for patient care on Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4. The facility will return to normal operating hours on Monday, July 6.

Military Youth Adventures

The Rhode Island National Guard Child and Youth Program will sponsor two adventure programs in West Greenwich in July. Military children ages 9-11 will explore the outdoors on Thursday, July 9, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., with lots of games and activities, including a scavenger hunt, shelter building, and a low challenge course. Teens 12-18 will meet Thursday, July 23, 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and experience interactive team building activities and a high challenge course.

Coddington Cove Open Water Swim

MWR will hold open water swim sessions in preparation for the July 26 Sprint Triathlon’s swim component. Upcoming training opportunities are on Mondays, July 6, 13, and 20, at 4:30 p.m. and Wednesdays, July 8, 15, and 22, at 11:30 a.m. The swims are open to active duty personnel, retirees, reservists, eligible family members, and DoD employees with base access. Space is limited and advance signup at the John H. Chafee Fitness Center is required. For more information, call 401- 841-3154.
