‘Mass on the Grass’

Trinity Church will hold its 10 a.m. service outdoors on the lawn on Sunday, July 12, overlooking Queen Anne Square and Newport harbor. The 8 a.m. worship will still be held in the church. For more information, call 401-846-0660.

Insight Support

Insight, a nonprofit organization that helps people living with vision loss learn how to be more independent, hosts a monthly educational group at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 12 Marlborough St., on the second Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will be Tuesday, July 14 at 11 a.m.

Interfaith Summer Day Camp

United Congregational Church will offer an interfaith summer day camp for children in grades K-6. This year’s theme is CAMP: creativity, art, music and play. The camp will run Monday through Friday, July 13 to 24, from 8 a.m.-5:15 p.m. To register, go online at uccmiddletown.org. Children’s Summer Bible Camp

St. Peter’s Lutheran Church will be holding a free camp entitled, “Everest: Conquering Challenges with God’s Mighty Powers,” July 13-17, from 6-8 p.m. The camp is open to the youth of the community and is for children ages 3-12. First Presbyterian VBS

This year’s Vacation Bible School theme is “Big Hearts Farms – Where God’s Fruit Grows.” The camp runs from July 13-17 from 9 a.m.-noon. For more information or to register, call the church office at 401- 847-1749.

Sports Camp

Separation or Divorce Support

Divorce Care is an international nondenominational ministry to persons recovering from separation or divorce. Weekly sessions take place Tuesday evenings, 6 - 8 p.m., at Newport Community Church, 100 Touro Street. The next meeting will be held on July 7. Meetings begin with a half-hour video seminar featuring top experts on divorce and recovery. The support group that follows provides an opportunity to discuss the featured topic. Touro Tours

Touro Synagogue is open for tours Sunday – Friday, through the Loeb Visitors Center, 52 Spring St. The center is open Sunday through Friday, from 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., with synagogue tours running 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. For more information, visit tourosynagogue.org.

United Baptist Tours

The church offers tours daily between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The tours are guided and free. The church is located at 30 Spring St. in Newport and can be reached at 401-847-3210.

Summer Concerts

Every Sunday afternoon the St. Mary’s Catholic Church music ministry offers concerts in the church at 1 and 3 p.m. The concerts are free and open to all; each lasts approximately 30 minutes. All are welcome to enjoy beautiful music in the oldest Catholic Church in Rhode Island. Concerts run through Sunday, Aug. 30.

Summer Bible Study

Emmanuel Church’s summer adult Bible study group meets on Wednesdays from 6:45-8 p.m. All are welcome to bring supper and enjoy fellowship and discussion. For more information, call 401-847- 0675.

Middletown Baptist VBS

Changes at St. Mary’s and St. Augustin

With the restructuring at St. Mary’s and St. Augustin Catholic parishes, the Providence Diocese has allowed Rev. Paul Halladay from the Military Archdiocese to assist at St. Augustin and St. Mary’s during the summer months to help with the transition. A new Mass schedule is now in effect.

St. Augustin offers Mass on Saturdays at 5 p.m. and Sundays at 8 a.m. In August, the Saturday Mass will begin at 4 p.m.

St. Mary’s holds Mass on Saturdays at 5 p.m., but will move to 5:15 p.m. in August.

Sunday Masses are held at 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m.

Daily Masses are at St. Mary’s on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at 7:30 a.m. Mass is offered on Thursdays at St. Augustin at 7:30 a.m.

The day-to-day office at St. Augustin will remain at its present location until further notice; however, the billing and accounting office and the scheduling of anointing, funerals and weddings has been relocated to St. Mary’s. For more information, call 401-847-0475.

Four Faiths Tour

Touro Synagogue, Trinity Episcopal Church, Newport Congregational Church, and St. Mary's Catholic Church have united to create the “4 Faiths, 4 Landmarks” walking tour, offering visitors a chance to explore four houses of worship prominent in Newport’s history on Tuesday afternoons through the summer. At each stop, docents will recount the site’s history and reveal architectural and artistic elements.

Tours will begin at Touro at 1 p.m. and finish at St. Mary’s at 4 p.m. The cost is $28 for adults, $20 for ages 6-21. Tickets must be purchased in advance at the Newport Visitor Center, the Pilot House at Bowen's Wharf, or online at 4faiths.org.

‘Camelot’ Benefits Soup Kitchen

St. Mary’s Church will present “Return to Camelot” each Tuesday afternoon throughout the summer, offering a remembrance of the Kennedy wedding that took place in the church on Sept. 12, 1953. All proceeds will benefit the St. Mary’s soup kitchen and musical programming.

“Camelot” will feature vintage film clips, photographs, and recollections of the wedding day by Jackie’s stepbrother, the late Yusha Auchincloss, taped exclusively for St. Mary’s, and musical director Cody Mead will perform selections from the wedding and reception. The performance begins at 3 p.m. and runs 45 minutes. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased at returntocamelot.org.
