A Little Help from Our Friends

To the Editor:

Summer vacation is finally here and our minds point to lazy days by the shore or in our local parks enjoying friends and family. But for so many children in the City of Newport, school is the place where a nutritious meal is always waiting for them and the summer season leaves a gap in nutrition. This year, the City of Newport is expanding its summer lunch program for children, delivering meals to children at the local parks throughout the community. Sadly, the program is experiencing a shortage of volunteers to help serve those meals. I am writing today in support of our schools, our beautiful city and its most precious treasure, our kids. Please reach out to offer your time to support this wonderful program. Whether you donate one hour or an hour a week for the summer, many hands will make for light work. I know the kids will appreciate it. Contact Miriam Navarro, program coordinator, at miriamnavarro@npsri.net or at 401-261-7936 as soon as you can. Time is of the essence as the program begins on June 29. Sometimes we just need a little help from our friends. This is one of those times. See you at the park.
