Altina Lester Gets Role in 'Ted II'

In the midst of “Ted II” you may find a local scene stealer named “Tina I.”

Newport ’s Altina “Tina” Lester, the fiery former owner of the former Sambar Restaurant on Thames Street, landed the small role of the Portuguese neighbor in the sequel to Seth McFarlane’s comedy hit film “Ted,” about a talking, lascivious stuffed bear.

Lester was called in about a year ago to screen for the part in “Ted II,” which premiered on June 23 in Boston and on June 24 in New York.

Lester was a local fixture preparing great Portuguese/Brazilian food at Sambar. She and her son, Mark Lester, sold the restaurant several years ago because his Brazilian Cachaca Rum, Soul, expanded significantly up and down the East Coast, and the family needed to focus on that enterprise instead.

Lester spent a good deal of time in Boston during the making of “Ted II.” Yet, she still finds time to do volunteer work for Newport’s Child & Family Services.
