Les Ballard and Kevin Sullivan Les Ballard and Kevin Sullivan Guests descended an outdoor staircase flanked with lavender and were greeted by two “living vines” before entering the Friends of Ballard Park’s annual fundraiser at Edgehill June 6. Les Ballard hosted the 225 supporters under a tent on his estate.

The wines to be poured at the soirée each year are much anticipated and are always a highlight of the party. Oenophile Ballard chose several select wines, including a 2003 and a 2009 Chateau Lynch Bages, a 2003 Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste and a 2012 Latour Corton Charlemagne. Champagnes were by Laurent-Perrier and Veuve Clicquot.

Rep. Marvin Abney awarded a citation from the State of Rhode Island recognizing Carol and Les Ballard for their commitment to public service and for providing area children with the opportunity to utilize the park as a year round outdoor learning laboratory. Abney also presented a $2,000 check to Executive Director Colleen McGrath to support public programming. In addition to educational field trips, Friends of Ballard Park hosts concerts, outdoor movie screenings and special events like the Illuminated Garden each year.

The event raised more than $50,000, which will be used to support educational field trips for children and public events. For more information, visit ballardpark.org.
