Shopping and Dining Al Fresco

Fans of the local food movement have double reason to rejoice these days with the recent opening of two outdoor farmers markets, Saturday mornings at Newport Vineyards and Wednesday afternoons on Memorial Boulevard. Not to be compared to simple roadside farm stands, samplings at the Aquidneck Growers’ Markets include organic produce, seafood, free range beef, natural skin care products, juices and flowers. They also boast locally roasted coffee, sauces and salsas, and homemade pickles. Delicious ready-to-eat food and delectable baked goods are on hand to tempt even the most self-disciplined shoppers.
