Legion of Mary Renewal

The Legion of Mary will hold a ceremony to renew their fealty to Mary, Queen of the Legion, on Saturday, May 23, at 1 p.m. at St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Light refreshments will follow. All are welcome.

St. Lucy’s Movie Night

St. Lucy’s Church will host backto back movies this month, screening “Bernadette” on Tuesday, May 26, and the sequel, “The Passion of Bernadette,” on Wednesday, May 27. Adult Bible Study

Emmanuel Church will hold summer Bible study for adults on Wednesday evenings June 10 through Aug. 12, from 6:45-8 p.m. Bring your supper and Bible and discuss Scripture readings for the upcoming Sunday. For more information, call 401-847-0675. All are welcome.

Swanhurst at St. Lucy’s

Swanhurst Chorus will present “A Voice for All Nations,” featuring the choral works of Hungarian composer Zoltan Kodaly on Sunday, May 31, at 3 p.m. The concert will be held at St. Lucy’s Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown. Admission is $10. All proceeds will benefit St. Lucy’s Church Building Fund.

St. Mary’s Seeks Plants

The St. Mary’s Community Garden, 324 East Main Road in Portsmouth, is accepting plant donations for the expanding outreach program. They are looking for squash, kale, Swiss chard, broccoli, tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, onions, and snap peas, as well as flowering plants. Honoring St. Augustin's Father John McNulty

St. Augustin’s Church will honor long-time parish leader Father John McNulty with a retirement dinner on June 14 at the Atlantic Beach Club. Reservations required. Men’s Breakfast and Bible Study

Happy Bookers to Meet

Spring Food Collection

Throughout the spring, the United Baptist Church, Newport is collecting canned food and dry goods for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center Feed a Friend Food Pantry. Contributions may be placed in the basket located at the entrance to the sanctuary at 30 Spring St., Newport. For more information, contact the church office at 401-847-3210.

Rabbi Honored

Temple Shalom will honor Rabbi Marc Jagolinzer on the occasion of his 40th anniversary at a worship celebration on Friday, June 5. The temple choir will be joined by the Community Baptist Church Choir; Pastor Joe Tripp, of the United Congregational Church, will offer the message. All are welcome.

Touro Tours

Touro Synagogue is open for tours Sunday – Friday, through the Loeb Visitors Center, 52 Spring St. The center is open from 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. and synagogue tours depart at 12, 12:30, 1 and 1:30 p.m. Due to a religious holiday, there will be no tours May 24 and 25. Emmanuel Sunday

Celebrate Founder’s Day at Emmanuel Church on Sunday, June 7, with a special service recognizing the newest members and honoring the legacy of the forbears. The service begins at 10 a.m. Later that day at 5 p.m. the choir will sing Evensong. The sung evening prayer will feature music by Cesar Franck and Louis Vierne. Receptions will follow both services. Thrift Shop

In addition to providing a bargain shopping resource for the Jamestown community and beyond, St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church’s thrift shop donates many items, including clothing, to individuals and area charitable organizations that need them.
