During this year’s Daffodil Days Festival, Rhode Island Ballet Theatre will perform the “Dance of the Daffodils,” a ballet and jazz routine that will take place outdoors Sunday, April 19, at Ballard Park at 2 p.m. with an encore show at Bellevue House at 4 p.m. Nancy McAuliffe, retired dancer and creative director of RIBT, is choreographing the dances.

The dancers will twirl through a pathway between the daffodil blooms, McAuliffe says. “I have choreographed a dance where the dancers come out of the trees to perform in the midst of the flowers. Their costumes resemble daffodils with green bottoms and yellow pieces around their faces that look like the tops of the flowers.”

The show will open with five dancers performing a jazz number to the song “Happy,” by Pharrell Williams, to get the crowd in the spirit of spring. A ballet routine to the “Dance of the Daffodils” will follow, with eight dancers making use of their light pink leather ballet shoes outside. This is RIBT’s first time participating in the Daffodil Days celebration and they hope their spring-themed dances will delight the crowd.
