Festival of Passover 5775

Temple Shalom will celebrate Passover on Friday, April 3, with worship at 6:30 p.m., followed by a temple Seder at 7 p.m. Shabbat and festival worship will be held Saturday, April 4, at 10 a.m. On Friday, April 10, Kabbalat Shabbat will be offered at 5:30 p.m. The eighth day of Pesach will be observed on Saturday, April 11, at 10 a.m. with Shabbat and festival worship. Chamber Music Performed

Cellist Benjamin Larsen and violinist Kelly Cho will perform in concert at St. Columba’s Chapel on Friday, April 10, at 7 p.m. The artists will be playing duo works by Mozart, Kodaly, Sirota and Handel/ Halvorsen.

Larsen is a professional cellist in New York City. A graduate of Manhattan School of Music, he is a member of Shattered Glass Ensemble and the artistic director of Concerts on the Slope in Brooklyn. Cho is a graduate student at Manhattan School of Music and a founding member of the Mue Ensemble. She has performed in chamber and orchestral festivals around the country.

Pasta Dinner

There will be a pasta dinner fundraiser at St. Barnabas Church on Sunday, April 12, from 6-8 p.m. to benefit substance abuse prevention education, organized by the Portsmouth High School Patriots Committed group. The evening will include games, prizes and a silent auction. Tickets will be available at the door or in advance at PHS from 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Adults are $8; youth ages 6-12 are $4.

Pianist to Play

Bulgarian born pianist Nadejda Vlaeva will perform on the Jamestown community piano at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church on Sunday, April 12, at 2 p.m.

Vlaeva will perform great works of music from different centuries that share the common theme of romantic expression. She will play selections originally composed by Jean-Philippe Rameau from Leopold Godowsky’s Renaissance Suite, Beethoven’s “Moonlight” Sonata, Chopin's Ballade in G minor, and Piano Sonata No. 2 by Sergei Bortkiewicz.

AICA Thrift Store

The Aquidneck Island Christian Academy Thrift Store will hold a clearance event on Saturday, April 18, with all items 50 percent off. Store hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. The store is at 321 East Main Road, Portsmouth.

Recovery Mass to Be Held

In cooperation with the Diocesan St. Matthias Recovery Ministry, the next quarterly Recovery Mass on the East Bay will be at St. Barnabas, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, on Sunday, April 19, at 5 p.m. The Mass will focus on recovery from alcoholism and addiction. All are welcome.
