Holy Week Schedule

Calvary United Methodist, located at 200 Turner Rd., Middletown, will hold Palm Sunday services at 8 and 10:30 a.m. On Good Friday, the film "The Passion" will be shown at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel. An Easter Sunday sunrise service at Easton’s Beach Rotunda begins at 6 a.m., followed by a pancake breakfast at the church from 7-8:30 a.m., with worship at 10:30 a.m. 401-847-6181.

The Chapel of Hope at the naval station will offer Palm Sunday services, with liturgical Protestant at 7:45 a.m., Roman Catholic Mass at 9 a.m., and contemporary Protestant at 10 a.m. Maundy Thursday and Good Friday worship is at 5 p.m. for Roman Catholics and 6:30 p.m. for Protestants. On Easter Sunday, liturgical Protestant services will be at 7:45 a.m., Roman Catholic Mass at 9 a.m. and contemporary Protestant at 10:30 a.m. Routine base access is required. 401-841-2234.

Emmanuel Church, 42 Dearborn St., will hold Palm Sunday services at 8 and 10 a.m. On Wednesday, there will be a service at 6 p.m., followed by a soup supper and the final class of the Lenten series, “Forgiving: A Vital Spiritual Practice.” The Maundy Thursday service at 6 p.m. includes foot washing and stripping of the altar. Good Friday service begins at 6 p.m. Easter Sunday services are at 8 and 10 a.m., with an Easter egg hunt following the 10 a.m. service. 401-847-0675.

First Presbyterian Church, Broadway at Everett Street, will hold Palm Sunday services on March 29, with Sunday school at 9:15 a.m., followed by worship at 10:30 a.m. Maundy Thursday Holy Communion service is at 7 p.m. On Easter Sunday, worship will be held at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Coffee fellowship will be held between Easter services at 10 a.m. Child care will be available at Easter services. 401- 847-1749.

St Columba’s Chapel, at 55 Vaucluse Ave., Middletown, offers Palm Sunday worship at 8 and 10 a.m. with a palm procession at 9:45 a.m.; Maundy Thursday service at 6:30 p.m.; Good Friday liturgy at 8:30 a.m., meditations from 12-3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. service; and Easter Sunday, 8 a.m., family service at 9:30 a.m. and choral service at 11 a.m. There will be an Easter egg hunt following the 9:30 service. St. John the Evangelist, at the corner of Washington and Willow streets, will celebrate Palm Sunday at 9:45 a.m. with a procession beginning at Storer Park, weather permitting. In case of inclement weather, the services will begin at 10 a.m. in the church. Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services begin at 6:30 p.m. The Easter Vigil begins at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, with the Emmanuel Church parish. Easter Sunday service is at 10 a.m. 401-848-2561.

St. Lucy’s Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown, will offer Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7 p.m. on Maundy Thursday. On Good Friday, Stations of the Cross will be at 3 p.m. and the Lord’s Passion at 7 p.m. The Easter Vigil Mass will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Holy Saturday. Easter Sunday Masses will be at 8, 9:30, and 11 a.m. There will be no 5 p.m. Mass.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Memorial Boulevard and Spring Street, will offer Palm Sunday Masses at 5 p.m. on Saturday, with Sunday services at 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. Masses will be held Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord’s Supper will be at 7 p.m. and Good Friday of the Lord’s Passion will be at 3 p.m. Easter Masses will be on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. 401-847-0475.

The Salvation Army will offer an Easter Sunday brunch at 10 a.m., with a worship service at 11 a.m. The Salvation Army is at 51 Memorial Blvd. 401-846-3234.

St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 324 East Main Road, Portsmouth, will hold Palm Sunday services at 5 p.m. on Saturday, with Sunday services at 8 and 10:30 a.m. Maundy Thursday services at 7 p.m. will include foot washing. Good Friday services will be at 7 p.m. and the Great Vigil on Saturday will begin at 7 p.m. Easter Sunday services will be at 8 and 10:30 a.m. 401-846-9700.

St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 525 Broadway, will observe Palm Sunday with worship at 9:30 a.m. Maundy Thursday Holy Eucharist and stripping the altar takes place at 7 p.m. Good Friday Tenebrae service is at 7 p.m. The Easter Vigil begins at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Easter Sunday services are at 9:30 a.m., with an Easter brunch and egg hunt following the service. 401-846-9567.

Trinity Church will offer Palm Sunday services at 8 and 10 a.m. with a palm procession at 9:45 a.m. Compline will be sung at 7 p.m. During Holy Week a simple Eucharist will be held at noon on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. The Maundy Thursday 7 p.m. liturgy, with choir, will include foot washing. Good Friday services are at 12 and 7 p.m. Easter Sunday services are at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. with an Easter egg hunt following the 10 a.m. service. 401-846-0660.

United Congregational Church, 524 Valley Rd., Middletown, will offer Palm Sunday services at 10 a.m. The Maundy Thursday service with Holy Communion and Tenebrae readings begins at 7:30 p.m. On Good Friday, the sanctuary will be open 12-6 p.m. and the labyrinth will be available in Farnum Hall from 2-6 p.m. Easter Sunday services are at 9and 11 a.m. The 9 a.m. service will feature a special children’s time, and Holy Communion will be served at both services. 401-849- 5444.
