Masses to Honor St. Patrick

Before the parade steps off on Saturday, March 14, a special Mass will be said at St. Joseph’s Church, at the corner of Mann Avenue and Broadway, at 9 a.m.

St. Mary’s will also hold a Mass in honor of St. Patrick on Sunday, March 15, at 11 a.m. The Rev. John T. McNulty, pastor of St. Augustin Church, will be the principal celebrant and homilist.

An Evening of Music

Musica Dolce will perform works by Schubert, Debussy, and Brahms at Channing Memorial Church, 135 Pelham St., on Sunday, March 15, at 2 p.m. The concert will feature Paul Rosenbloom on piano, Alexey Shabalin on violin, Theodore Mook on cello, and Robert Hayden on the clarinet. Tickets are $20, available at the door.

Mid-Lent Choral Evensong

Emmanuel Church Choir will offer a Mid-Lent Evensong on Sunday, March 15, at 5 p.m. The organ prelude begins at 4:50 p.m. with pieces by Samuel Barber and Charles Stanford, and choral music will include works by Candlyn, Brewer, and Webster. Good Friday Walk for Hunger

The third annual Aquidneck Island Good Friday Walk to End Hunger and Homelessness will be held on Friday, April 3, to raise awareness and funds to help alleviate the sufferings of the poor. All are welcome to walk or volunteer.

The 3-5 mile routes will begin and end at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at 5 Mann Ave. and travel through Newport neighborhoods, recognizing organizations that serve the neediest residents.

Walkers/teams should register and collect pledge donations ahead of time to turn in the day of the walk. Registration and check in will be in the St. Joseph’s church hall basement starting at 8 a.m. on Good Friday, and the walk will commence after a short invocation at 9 a.m. To get a pledge sheet, volunteer, or to make a donation, visit goodfridaywalkforhungerri.org.

Parish Penitential Service

St. Mary’s Catholic Church will hold a parish penitential service on Monday, March 16, at 6:30 p.m. Several priests will be available to hear individual confessions.

‘Frozen’ Fun at St. Peter’s

St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 525 Broadway, will hold a Disney “Frozen” themed potluck following the 9:30 a.m. worship on Sunday, March 15. Bring your favorite cold weather dish and join in for food, fellowship and fun “Frozen” activities for children and adults. For more information, call 401-846-9567.

Sixth Annual Lenten Meal

St. Mary’s Catholic Church Pastoral Council will hold its sixth annual Lenten meal to benefit local outreach programming on Friday, March 20, in the parish center. Cocktails are at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served 5:30-7 p.m. There will be a fish entrĂ©e for adults and macaroni and cheese for youngsters. Reservations are required. Lenten Fish Dinners

St. Barnabas will host a Lenten fish dinner in the church hall, 1697 East Main Road in Portsmouth, on Friday, March 20, from 5-7 p.m. Adult tickets are $10, youth 5-12 are $6, and children under 5 are free. Dinner includes clam chowder, baked fish, potatoes, cole slaw, bread, beverage, and cake. Proceeds will benefit St. Anthony and St. Barnabas churches and the Portsmouth Multi-Purpose Senior Center. Tickets are available at the St. Barnabas office.

Trinity Lenten Series

The next speaker at Trinity Church’s Lenten Speakers Series, "Feeding Mind, Body, and Spirit: Our Selves, Our Souls and Bodies," will be David Dadekian, of Eat Drink RI and the Rhode Island Food Policy Council, on Wednesday, March 18. The evening begins at 7 p.m. with a reception, and the program runs 7:30-8:30 p.m. For more information, call 401-846-0660.

Ecumenical Hymn Sing

Calvary United Methodist Church will host an afternoon of hymnody, scripture and prayer on Palm Sunday, March 29, at 4 p.m. with an Ecumenical Hymn Sing and Hoedown. Diverse clergy, music ministers and choirs will present, and Stephen Martorella, minister of music from the First Baptist Church in America, will be the guest speaker. A reception will follow, and all donations will benefit the Rhode Island Food Bank and the Newport Housing Hotline. Calvary is at 200 Turner Road, Middletown.
