Irish Activities Abound

Although March in Newport is best known for the St. Patrick’s Day parade, this year on March 14, the month is full of events honoring the many contributions of the Irish to the city. Opening week of Irish Heritage Month will feature “Celebrating Ireland in Story & Song” at Newport Public Library on Sunday, March 1, at 2 p.m., and later that day Fastnet Pub will offer a traditional family-friendly Irish music session from 6-9 p.m. Portsmouth Free Public Library will host “Humor and the Harp” on Thursday, March 5, at 6:30 p.m. and Redwood Library will hold a special workshop for children, “Celtic Music and Dance,” Friday, March 6, 4 p.m. With tours, concerts, special Masses, and even corned beef dinners on tap, the full lineup has something to suit every taste.
