Sweet Winter Fun

Martha Marie Grogan, proprietor of Destination Chocolate on Bowen’s Wharf, assists Jacob Homan, 10, and Joey Alteri, 5, as they construct marshmallow snowmen during a Newport Winter Festival event held at the shop recently. The Homan and Alteri families, both from Massachusetts, braved the wintry weather to take advantage of the myriad entertainments offered during the festival. Although the snowfall has dampened attendance at many events, and indeed canceled some, there is still a weekend chockablock full of concerts, comedy, and family activities ahead through Sunday, Feb. 22. Highlights include the Newport Night Run 5K, Beach Polo, comedians Kevin Meaney and Kerri Louise, and even a festival family day at the beach.
