Newport Police Log

During the period from Monday, Jan. 26 through Sunday, Feb. 1, the Newport Police Department responded to 460 calls. Of those, 112 were motor vehicle related; there were 86 motor vehicle violations issued and 26 accident reports.

The police also responded to 7 noise complaints, 5 animal complaints, 38 home/business alarm calls, 4 private tows, and reports of shots fired on Pond Ave. and Hillside Ave. both on Thursday, Feb. 5. Police were called on Friday, Feb. 6 for a report of a dead body found on Red Cross Ave. They transported 5 prisoners, escorted 1 funeral, had 1 bicycle violation and 7 school security checks.

They recorded 2 instances of assisting other police departments and 4 instances of assisting other agencies.

In addition, 15 arrests were made for the following violations:

n4 arrests was made for outstanding bench warrants.
n 2 arrests were made for disorderly conduct.
n1 arrest were made for willful
trespassing.
n1 arrest were made for vandalism. n 2 arrests were made for driving with a suspended or revoked
license.

assault.
n1 arrest was made for DUI.
n1 arrest was made for passing
counterfeit bills.

assault.
n1 arrest was made for possession of weapons.
