A Temporary Lull

Although recent harsh weather has sidelined most of the local lobster fishing fleet, these pots currently "resting" at Louis Jagschitz Pier will be back in the water as soon as conditions ease. The brutal elements may have hampered our regional watermen, but both the city and the waterfront will be ablaze with activity during the 27th annual Newport Winter Festival Feb. 13-22, each day jam-packed with indoor and outdoor events for adults, children and everyone in between. Ten days of "You call this winter?" cheer will feature outdoor ice sculpting, scavenger hunts, beach polo, and horseback riding, as well as comedy shows, musical performances, contests, and lectures for those who prefer their fun indoors. Another snowstorm heading this way? Bring it on.
