RECENT DEATHS

Dora C. (Pirie) Aleicho, 78, of Newport, passed away Jan. 9, 2015 at the Warren Skilled Nursing Center in Warren. She was the wife of the late Jose R. Aleicho. She was a member of the British Air Force when she met and married her husband, who was in the U.S. Air Force. She leaves behind her children, Anthony Aleicho of Middletown, Andrew and Adam Aleicho of Portsmouth, Alan Aleicho of Newport, and Angela Hurney of Tiverton, and nine grandchildren. Olive T. (Moniz) Escobar, 91, of Newport, passed away Jan. 7, 2015 at Mass. General Hospital in Boston. She leaves behind her daughters, Brenda Escobar and Maryanne Rosario, both of Newport, and Barbara Clayton of Jacksonville, Fla., seven grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Joan Clarice (Coop) Johnson, 89, of Portsmouth, passed away Jan. 6, 2015 at Grand Islander Health Care Center, Middletown. She was the wife of the late John Johnson. Donations in her memory may be made to the Humane Society, humanesociety.org.

Paul E. LeVasseur Sr., 74, of Middletown, passed away Jan. 9, 2015 at Charlton Hospital, Fall River, Mass. He was the husband of Marjorie (Peckham) LeVasseur. He retired as a Gunnery Sgt. after serving in the U. S. Marine Corps for more than 22 years, including two tours in the Vietnam War. Following his military career, he was the postmaster for Adamsville, R.I. He also leaves behind his two sons, Paul E. LeVasseur, Jr. and Matthew J. LeVasseur and their wives, all of Middletown, and his grandson, Evan Paul LeVasseur. He was buried with military honors in Newport Memorial Park.

William C. “Chris” Marley, 57, of Middletown, passed away Jan. 12, 2015 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, surrounded by family. He was the husband of Donna (Davis) Marley. He also leaves behind his children, Chris Marley and his wife, and Tracey McGowan and her husband, all of Middletown, and six grandchildren. Calling hours will be Thursday, Jan. 15, from 4 – 7 p.m. in the Memorial Funeral Home. His funeral will take place on Jan. 16 at 11 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home. Mary N. (Mello) Pemental, 96, formerly of Newport, passed away Jan. 7, 2015 at Grand Islander Health Care Center, Middletown. She was the wife of the late John Pemental, Senior Chief U.S. Navy. She leaves behind her sons, Francis Pemental of Newport and John Pemental Jr. of Bristol, seven grandchildren, and nine greatgrandchildren. Donations in her memory may be made to the Robert Potter League for Animals, P.O. Box 412, Newport, RI 02840.

Christopher John Thompson, 35, of Newport, passed away Jan. 10, 2015, after a valiant struggle against a long illness. A Chapel Service will be held on Friday, Jan. 16, at 10 a.m. in the St. Columba Cemetery Chapel, Middletown.
