Winter Activities at NBS

Norman Bird Sanctuary’s programming continues even when temperatures plummet, offering opportunities to get outside and have fun, all while learning about the natural world. The Winter Rarities EcoTour will take place Saturday, Jan. 10. The popular annual trip takes participants to birding hotspots throughout the region. New England historically is known for a large number of rare birds visiting in the winter months. The itinerary is planned to coincide with current sightings reports, so guests have the best chance of spotting rare winter migrants. This program runs 6:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. and is designed for all skill levels. The cost is $60 for members and $70 for non-members.

The January Owl Prowl will be held on Friday, Jan. 16, from 6-7:30 p.m., with a rain date of Jan. 23. Learn how to ID owl species by sight and call before heading out on the trails for a night of discovery. The program is appropriate for those ages 6 and up and it costs $8 for members and $10 for nonmembers.

A Winter Tracks and Signs program will be presented on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 10:30 a.m. During the fun interactive walk, youngsters ages 4 and up will learn the basics of identifying tracks and signs of local animals. Cost is $8 for members and $10 for non-members.
