Conanicut Island Bird Count

The 33rd Annual Conanicut Island Christmas Bird Count will be held Saturday, Dec. 27. Interested birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts are asked to meet in the conference room of the Jamestown Police Station, 250 Canonicus Ave., at 7 a.m. Observation teams will be selected, reflecting the experience levels of participants.

Last year’s count was hampered by cold temperatures and snow, but the event still yielded the sightings of 76 species across the island, including some surprise avian species. Jamestown holds a number of thriving habitats that attract unique specimens and provides birders with an exciting experience.
