RECENT DEATHS

John Frederick Barker, 87, of Wakefield, formerly of Newport, passed away Dec. 2, 2014 after a short illness. He worked at the Torpedo Station on Goat Island before being drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in the European Theater. He leaves behind two children and five grandchildren. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13, at 11 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home, Newport. Ret. Capt. Paul E. Barrow, DDS, 85, of Middletown, passed away Dec. 7, 2014 at Grand Islander Health Care Center Middletown. He was the husband of the late Ilene S. (Sterling) Barrow. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He leaves behind his sons, Paul and Timothy Barrow of Middletown, and three grandchildren. His funeral will be on Thursday, Dec. 11, at 11 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home. Caroline T. (Evans) Clarke, 76, of Newport, passed away Dec. 8, 2014 at Grand Islander Health Care Center Middletown. She was the wife of Francis A. Clarke. She also leaves behind a daughter, two grandchildren and one great grandchild. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Dec. 11, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, Newport. Ruth Marie Gros, 92, of Middletown, passed away Dec. 4, 2014 at the St. Clare Home in Newport. She was the wife of the late Lesley A. Gros. As a child she lived at the Southeast Lighthouse on Block Island, where her father was one of the keepers. She leaves behind a daughter, a granddaughter and two great-grandsons. Jo-Ann Carlyle (Ciccolo) Hattub, 82, of Newport, passed away at home on Dec. 9, 2014 surrounded by family. She was the wife of the late Joseph M. Hattub. She leaves behind her children, John Hattub of Brockton, Mass., Adele (Hattub) Bowley and Michael Hattub, both of Newport, and Annie (Hattub) Tatirosian of Middletown; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A chapel service to celebrate her life will be held on Friday, Dec. 12 at 10 a.m. at the St. Columba Cemetery, Middletown. Donations in her memory may be made to the Potter League for Animals, P.O. Harry W. Rice Jr., 81, of Newport, passed away Dec. 3, 2014. He was the husband of Dolores E. Lee- Rice. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. He also leaves behind six children, nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-greatgrandchild. Calling hours will be Thursday, Dec. 11, from 6 – 8 p.m. in the Hambly Brick House, 30 Red Cross Ave. His funeral service will be Dec. 12 at 1 p.m. in the Hambly Brick House.
