Hanging of the Greens

The Chapel of Hope invites those with base access to stop by the chapel on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 3-5 p.m. and help decorate for the holidays with the hanging of the greens. Call 401-841-2234 for more information.

Navy Band Holiday Concert

The Northeast Navy Band Pops Ensemble will present a free holiday concert at the Naval War College’s Spruance Auditorium on Sunday, Dec. 14, at 3 p.m. The concert is open to the public and will feature traditional and contemporary holiday favorites. Santa is expected to visit during the familyfriendly event.

Non-DoD personnel wishing to attend may contact the Naval Station Public Affairs Office to make arrangements for base access. Call 401-841-3538 or email lisa.rama@ navy.mil and provide the full names of all guests attending prior to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11. Adults are required to present photo ID at Gate 1. Vehicle operators must also have a current driver’s license, current vehicle registration, and proof of insurance when driving on the installation.

Choristers Christmas Concert

The Newport Navy Choristers will present “Christmas in Song” on Friday, Dec. 12, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Lucy’s Church. The annual concert is a mix of traditional and contemporary favorites and will benefit the Portsmouth Lions Club charities. Tickets will be available at the door and cost $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and children, with a maximum of $25 per family.

Toys for Tots

Naval Academy Prep School (NAPS) is coordinating the basewide Toys for Tots drive as part of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Corps national campaign. Through Dec. 10, NAPS will be collecting donations of new, unwrapped toys for the less fortunate in the community. All hands are encouraged to participate, and collection boxes are located at the Navy Exchange, Perry Hall, and NAPS. For more information, call 401-841-6935.

Graduations

Officer Candidate School will hold a commissioning and graduation ceremony on Friday, Dec. 12, in Kay Hall at 2 p.m. Capt. Dennis Boyer, commanding officer of Naval Station Newport, will address the graduates.

Officer Development School will graduate new members of the medical, dental, nurse, judge advocate general, and medical service corps on Friday, Dec. 19, at the Marine Detachment at 9 a.m. The guest speaker has not been announced. For more information, call 401-841-1171.

Saturday Flu Clinic

Naval Health Clinic New England will hold a flu clinic for beneficiaries on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 8 a.m.-noon. Only flu vaccines will be administered that day. Vaccines for other illnesses, including shingles, are available during regular hours at the immunization clinic, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Navy Parent Webinars

Free parent webinar education seminars will be offered to Navy and DoD personnel assigned to Navy facilities beginning Dec. 10. The interactive programs offer research based information for parents. Registered viewers will view the live webinar or access a recorded presentation for two weeks after posting. All webinars begin at 1 p.m. Register for programs at the following links.

All hands are urged to familiarize themselves with methods used to communicate operational changes on the naval base. Notifications of base status will be provided on most major local television and radio stations. Up-to-date base conditions will also be posted on Facebook.
