Operation Holiday Cheer

The 12th annual Operation Holiday Cheer will be held at the National Guard Armory, 541 Airport Road, Warwick. Donation drop off and sorting will take place on Saturday, Nov. 22, from 9 a.m.-noon, and care packages will be assembled on Sunday, Nov. 23. Volunteers must register in advance. Eight Bells Lectures

The Naval War College Museum’s Eight Bells lecture series will continue at noon on Thursday, Nov. 20, with James Rentfrow on “Home Squadron: The U.S. Navy on the North Atlantic Station,” examining the evolution of the organizational identity for the North Atlantic Squadron during the period from 1874-1897. Far from being a combat force, the ships, the tactics, and the training of the force changed with many fits and starts and led to the creation of a combat unit prepared for war.

USSVI Meeting

The Rhode Island base of the United States Submarine Veterans, Inc. will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, Nov. 20, at 7 p.m. at the USS Saratoga Museum Foundation Building, 6854 Post Road, North Kingstown. Plans for the Kap(SS) 4 Kid(SS) visit to Hasbro Children's Hospital on Friday, Nov. 21, will be discussed. All submariners are invited to attend, whether members of the USSVI or not. Spouse Event

The Military Spouses of Newport will host A Night at the Spice & Tea Exchange, 198 Thames St., on Thursday, Nov. 20, from 6-8 p.m. The evening will include tea tastings, food samples, and tips on cooking with various spices. Register at milspousenewport.org.

Holiday Food Drive

The Chapel of Hope is running its annual Caring and Sharing program to ensure that all members of the Navy Newport community are able to enjoy traditional Thanksgiving and December holiday meals. Collection boxes are at locations throughout the base, and all hands are invited to donate non-perishable items. Cash donations may be made through the purchase of a gift card to the commissary or local supermarkets. For more information, call the Chapel of Hope at 401-841-2234.

‘Turkey Burn Off’

The John H. Chafee Fitness Center will host a “Turkey Burn Off” event on Friday, Nov. 28, from 8 a.m.-noon, for those who want to burn off extra calories. Classes include spin, Tabata, Zumba and more. Sign up at the fitness center front desk. For more information, call 401-841-3154.

All Hands Thanksgiving

The Officers’ Club will host a traditional Thanksgiving Day buffet for all hands with base access. The popular celebration includes all the traditional favorites, and seating times are from noon to 4 p.m. Advance ticketing is required and available at the Officers’ Club Monday - Friday, from 9-11 a.m. and 2-5 p.m. Tickets are $35 for adults, $17.50 for children ages 8-12, and children ages 4-7 are $10.50. Children 3 and under are free but still need a ticket. For more information, call the club at 401-841-1442.

Thrift Shop Closure

The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society Thrift Shop will close after business on Nov. 20 and reopen on Dec. 2. The donations bin will also close on Nov. 20 but will reopen on Nov. 30. All hands are asked to hold donations until Nov. 30

Flu Clinics

Saturday flu clinics will be held at Naval Health Clinic New England on Nov. 22 and Dec. 6, from 8 a.m.- noon for military personnel and beneficiaries. Fluzone, for those over 65, is not currently available.
