A Welcome Amenity

To the Editor:

We heartily support the final approval of the new welcome center at The Breakers. As long time partners and business colleagues of the Preservation Society, the Hotel Viking endorses warm, gracious hospitality that should be part of every visitor's experience in Newport. A museum welcome center would provide just that for the Newport mansions – one of the biggest tourism draws in Newport.

The snacks and non-alcoholic beverages that will be served in the welcome center are light refreshments and will certainly not interfere with any restaurant business. It is a welcome amenity to refresh our visitors in this world class tourist destination.

We urge the Newport Zoning Board of Review to approve the modified special use permit for The Breakers welcome center. We believe it will benefit both the museum and the tourist experience in our city.
