Renata Martha Adams, 84, of John Andrew Arnold, 66, of Newport, passed away unexpectedly Oct. 8, 2014 at Charleton Memorial Hospital, Fall River, Mass. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church. Donations in his memory may be made to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center Feed a Friend Food Pantry, 20 Dr. Marcus F. Wheatland Blvd., Newport, RI 02840.

John H. Dieffenbach, 87, of Newport, passed away Oct. 7, 2014 at Newport Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mary A. (Wholey) Dieffenbach. He served in the Army Air Corps during the Korean War. Robert Edward Kirby, 94, passed away Oct. 11, 2014 at St. Clare Home, Newport. He was the husband of the late Natalie “Tommie” McLaughlin. He served with the Army Air Corps in World War II. Eleanor M Lilley, 82, of Newport, passed away Oct. 11, 2014 at Sakonnet Bay Manor. She was the wife of the late James A. Stewart and William H. Lilley. Donations in her memory may be made to the Robert Potter League for Animals P.O.Box 412 Newport, RI 02840.

Conrad Christopher “Chris, Kozy” Kosegarten, 66, of Newport, passed away unexpectedly Oct. 10, 2014 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of Barbara “Bobbi” (Coffey) Kosegarten. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Vietnam. Donations in his memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.

Jack W. Roach, 90, of Hobe Sound, Fla., formerly of Newport, passed away Oct. 6, 2014. He was the husband of Mildred (Harrington) Roach. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. His funeral service with military honors was held at St. Columba Cemetery Chapel. Donations in his memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.

Retired Master Chief Petty Officer James H. Stearns Jr., 83, passed away Oct. 14, 2014. He was the husband of the late Rita F. (Serrilla) Stearns. He was a U.S. Navy veteran completing two tours in Vietnam. A graveside burial will be held on Oct. 18 at 11 a.m. at the Four Corners Cemetery at the corner of Wyatt and Turner roads, Middletown. Donations in his memory may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.

John Souza, 90, of Providence, formerly of Portsmouth, passed away unexpectedly Oct. 9, 2014 at home. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the South Pacific during World War II. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, Oct. 20, at 9 a.m. at Jesus Savior Church.

Robert J. Velleca, 78, of Newport, passed away Oct. 12, 2014 at home. He was the companion of Patricia A. Kenney. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, Oct. 16, from 4 – 7 p.m. with a remembrance service at 6:45 p.m. in the Hambly “Brick House” Funeral Home, 30 Red Cross Ave. Donations in his memory may be made to the Newport Public Library, 300 Spring St., Newport, RI 02840.
