Potential Jobs Draw Seekers

Almost 300 job seekers attended an informational jobs fair at Newport Grand on Wednesday, Oct. 15 in a demonstration of the demand for jobs at the proposed Newport Entertainment Center. The event highlighted 350 possible positions in gaming, hospitality, event management, and spa and fitness services, most of which are full-time opportunities offering fringe benefits. The developers of the project have also introduced "The Newport Partnership," a community package that gives hiring preferences to local residents. With less than three weeks to go before the Nov. 4 election, all eyes are on Questions 1 and 2, which will dictate whether the jobs materialize.
