Volunteers Wanted

n The Newport Hospital Behavioral Health Unit is seeking volunteers with knowledge of yoga or music to come to the hospital once a week for 45 minutes for an introductionto yoga class for patients on the unit and a musical recreational therapy group. Musicians are welcome to bring their instruments. Current sessions include a guitar sing-along and a drumming group. n Visiting Nurse Services of Newport and Bristol Counties is in need of volunteers. Several opportunities are available for seniors in high school looking for community service hours, or seniors in life looking to make a difference. Those who have court-mandated community service hours to do are also welcome. Specific needs include painters and office volunteers. n Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State is continuing its drive to recruit male and female mentors for the 100+ kids who are currently on the waiting list. Boys and girls ages 7-15 throughout the state of Rhode Island are waiting to be paired with a volunteer for six-eight hours a month for a minimum of a one year commitment. n Volunteers are needed to help plant daffodil bulbs at Ballard Park on Oct. 24 and then at other locations beginning Oct. 25. To volunteer, visit daffodillion.com. The Daffodil Project, whose goal is to plant one million daffodils throughout Newport, will once again be distributing free “Daffodillion” bulbs to Newport residents at the Easton’s Beach parking lot on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. and at Hunter Park in the Point neighborhood from 2 p.m. until supplies last.

n Be a “Fairy Godmother” and donate a teen prom dress or girls’ princess dress to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State (BBBSOS). The donation drive coincides with the national tour launch of Rodgers + Hammerstein’s “Cinderella.” To donate, call George Marley at 401- 921-2434 x124.
