New Carts Roll Out

Rehrig Pacific Company employees Myron Walker (l) and Vinnie Weinheimer deliver new trash and recycling carts to residents of Old Beach Road. Rehrig Pacific, through the City of Newport's arrangement with Waste Management, has been contracted to manufacture and deliver 20,000 carts to residents in a new program that has generated enough controversy to fill one of the 64-gallon receptacles. The city has a limited number of 35-gallon carts available for multifamily dwellings. All of the carts are expected to be delivered by the end of the month, with the new collection process beginning Nov. 3.
