RECENT DEATHS

Loudwina Gloria Cogswell, 83, of Portsmouth, passed away at home, Sept. 20, 2014. She was the wife of Ret. USCG CWO4 Paul Cogswell. Donations in her memory may be made to the Visiting Nurse Services of Newport and Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.

Melva M. (McCann) Brown, 89, of Middletown, passed away Sept. 20, 2014 at Charlton Memorial Hospital, Fall River, Mass. She was the wife of the late Francis Brown. A memorial service will be Saturday, Sept. 27, at 11 a.m. at the United Baptist Church, 30 Spring St., Newport. Donations in her memory may be made to the United Baptist Church Restoration Fund.

Richard H. Dinsmore, 67, of Newport, passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 15, 2014. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam and Korean wars. Memorial services were held in Tennessee. A gathering of family and friends in Newport will be held at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at woundedwarriorproject.org/donate.

Peter John Holmes, 72, of Portsmouth, passed away Sept. 17, 2014, at home surrounded by family. He was the husband of Janet (Blaess) Holmes. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He leaves behind his children, Travis and Ryan Holmes of Newport, and Patrick Holmes of Portsmouth. Eleanore Claire Gervais Santos, 95, of Middletown, passed away Sept. 17, 2014 at Forest Farm Health Care Center. She was the wife of the late Joseph P. Santos. Donations in her memory may be made to the Monastery of Discalced Carmelites, 25 Watson Ave., Barrington, RI 02806.

Beverly Ann Tavares, 68, of Portsmouth, passed away Sept. 15, 2014, at St. Elizabeth’s Manor in Bristol. She was a teacher in Portsmouth for more than 34 years. Donations in her memory may be made to Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island, 169 George St., Pawtucket, RI 02860.
