Sail Newport Honors Robin Wallace


Dr. Robin Wallace and Roy Williams Dr. Robin Wallace and Roy Williams Sail Newport held a special evening honoring Dr. A.R.G. (Robin) Wallace, a co-founder of the 31-year old non-profit, on Saturday, Sept. 20. The event also served as a fundraiser for the organization’s public sailing programs. More than 400 guests attended the dinner dance held at Fort Adams State Park overlooking the harbor. The tent was decorated as a “gentlemen’s picnic,” resplendent with Dr. Wallace’s family tartan. The highlight of the evening was a video tribute to Wallace, highlighting his 50 years in Newport and his dedicated service to the community. He was also duly recognized as one of the pioneers of Newport’s thriving sailing industry and sport. More than $100,000 was raised during the evening and funds will endow a Sail Newport J/22 in the fleet named after Wallace’s boat “Dolphin.”The vessel will be used in programs offering public access to the sport of sailing.
