Change in the Wind

Newport has been abuzz since the news spread that the Newport Yachting Center will soon be sold to the Peregrine Group – and especially at the announcement that the new owners do not intend to continue hosting concert and festival events at the site. The famous big white tent alongside America’s Cup Avenue and winter street side ice skating rink will be mere memories once the sale is completed, expected in November. Present owners Newport Harbor Corporation began as Newport Oil Corporation in 1925, and through the years the company has gone through many iterations, with a long history of property acquisitions and sales. They currently operate other businesses in Newport, Providence, Tiverton, Narragansett, Cranston, and five locations in Massachusetts.
