Landmark Unveiling

The Newport Congregational Church held a public unveiling of its newly- installed National Historic Landmark plaque. The La Farge Restoration Fund, whose efforts were acknowledged with the award, led the way in placing the church among the elite circle of 18 National Historic Landmarks in Newport. Seen here are Ted Sanderson, executive director of the Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission, Teresa Paiva Weed, president of the Rhode Island Senate, and Jennifer Smith from the National Park Service. On the top step is Newport Mayor Henry F. Winthrop. (Photo by Jen Carter) The Newport Congregational Church held a public unveiling of its newly- installed National Historic Landmark plaque.
