Feels Like Summer School

Sign-wielding crossing guards were back manning newly-painted crosswalks this week as Newport schools welcomed students for the new school year – in what is without a doubt the hottest week of the summer. Kids who ran enthusiastically into the buildings in the morning were dragging by the end of the day, and more than one was heard longing for cooler weather. Motorists are urged to obey speed limits and keep a vigilant eye out for youngsters, both in crosswalks and in the street as many dash trying to make the last bell.
