Race to Remember

Naval Station Newport will sponsor A Race to Remember, a tribute to remember fallen heroes, on Thursday, Sept. 11, at 6 a.m. The event is open to all personnel with base access. Both the 5K run and 1.5-mile walk courses begin and end at the Weenachasett Bridge. For more information, call 401-841-3154.

New Spouse Orientation

There will be an orientation workshop for spouses new to the military lifestyle on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at the Fleet and Family Support Center, Bldg. 1260. The program runs 10-11:30 a.m. and will address issues related to support services, deployment preparation, and benefits. For more information or to register, call 401-841-2283.

Military Appreciation Blood Drive

The Rhode Island Blood Center will hold a Military Appreciation Blood Drive on Sunday, Aug. 31, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. U.S. Naval War College and SWOS donors who have given at least five gallons will be recognized. OCS Graduation

Officer Candidate School will commission 74 ensigns on Friday, Aug. 29, in a 10:30 a.m. ceremony in Kay Hall. Rear Adm. Richard Brown, commander of Naval Service Command, will address the graduates. For more information, call 401-841-1171.

O’Club Music

The Officers’ Club summer concert series continues Friday and Saturday, with music on the deck beginning at 5:30 p.m. Jimmy Buffet tribute band Changes in Latitude plays on Friday, Aug. 29, and on Aug. 30 the Blackstone River Boys offer folk, rock and bluegrass.
