Housing Hotline Yard Sale

A yard sale to benefit the Housing Hotline will be held on Saturday, Aug. 16, at 16 Heath St. The sale will begin at 7:30 a.m. Call 401-846-4896 to make donation arrangements or drop off items at the hotline office on Collins Street.

Summer Community Chanting

The summer community chanting group will meet at Emmanuel Church, All Saints Chapel, 42 Dearborn St., on Saturday, Aug. 16, from 9-10:30 a.m. No experience is necessary to join the group. Chanting is a form of meditation and improves receptivity and focus, raises energy levels, and helps listening skills. Donations are accepted in support of the church's community meal program. 'Mass on the Grass’

Trinity Church will hold outdoor worship on Sunday, Aug. 17, overlooking Queen Anne Square and Newport Harbor, weather permitting. The 10 a.m. service will be held on the lawn, but the 8 a.m. worship will be held in the church. For more information, call 401-846-0660.

Bereavement Support

The Office of Life and Family will offer the Our Lady of Sorrows bereavement support program at St. Lucy’s Church in the parish center each Thursday at 7 p.m. from Sept. 11 to Oct. 30. This support group provides a peaceful place to share and learn about grief, with the spiritual comfort of the Catholic faith. It is most appropriate for adults at least three months beyond their loss. There is no cost to attend. For registration and more information, contact Peter A. Magnotta at 401- 421-7833 x217.

Bible Study and Prayer

St. Mary’s Catholic Church Bible Study and Prayer Group meets every Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. in the parish center at Spring and William streets. Everyone is welcome for a one time visit or every Wednesday, as schedules permit.

‘Babette’s Feast’ at Trinity

Trinity Church will show a free screening of “Babette’s Feast” on Wednesday, Aug. 27, at 7 p.m. in Honyman Hall. All are welcome.

Trinity Men's Bible Study

The Trinity Church Men’s Bible Study group meets on Tuesday mornings at 7:30 a.m. at the Seamen's Church Institute. On Aug. 19 they will begin a study of Exodus, and interested men are welcome to join. St. Barnabas Yard Sale

The annual St. Barnabas yard sale will be held on Saturday, Sept. 6. Rain date is Saturday, Sept. 13. Tables are going fast, so check your closets, attic, and garage for items you no longer need or use, but someone else might. Tables cost $10 and may be rented by calling 401-683-3865 after 5 p.m. or by calling the office at 401-683-1343 during the day.

If you do not want to rent a table but want to clear out some items, you may donate them to St. Barnabas. No televisions, computers, or electronic equipment will be accepted. Donated items may be dropped off at the office, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, beginning Tuesday, Sept. 2.

St. Peter’s Yard Sale

St. Peter’s Lutheran Church will hold its annual community yard sale on Saturday, Aug. 16, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. on the church grounds at 525 Broadway. Rain date is Saturday, Aug. 23. The sale will feature a wide variety of items, as well as a bake sale and lunch stand. Spaces are open to members of the community for a fee of $20. Bring your own table or rent a table for an additional $5. Call 401-846-9567 to reserve. Proceeds from the sale will support the Aquidneck Island Soup Supper Program as well as other community outreach programs of the congregation.

Emmanuel Book Group

The Emmanuel Book Group will meet on Tuesday, Aug. 19, to discuss “Where'd You Go, Bernadette,” by Maria Semple. Lobster Rolls at CBC

Jamestown’s Central Baptist Church will host its annual dinner featuring fresh lobster rolls, clam cakes, and chowder on Friday, Aug. 15. Dinner service will begin at 5 p.m. and continue until supplies are gone; diners may either eat in or take out. The church is located at 99 Narragansett Ave. Call 401-423- 1651 for more information.

Gospel Music Fest

Graceway Community Church will host the Come Alive Gospel Music Fest on Saturday, Aug. 23, at King Park from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. All are welcome to bring a picnic and blanket or chair, and enjoy musicians and worship teams. St. Columba’s Concert

A chamber music concert, “Transcriptions and Abstractions,” will be held at St. Columba’s Chapel on Wednesday, Aug. 27, at 7 p.m. The concert will feature Julie Castor on violin and Benjamin Larsen on cello, and works will include a transcription of Mozart’s Duo for violin and viola, K. 423; selections from Glière’s Duets, Opus 39; and Kodaly’s Duo for violin and cello, Opus 7. St. Mark’s Summer Festival

St. Mark Church will hold its annual summer festival on Saturday, Aug. 23, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Food will be prepared and served by the Knights of Columbus. The event will feature children’s games and scribble art, baked goods, gifts, jewelry, and handcrafted items. “Luck of the Irish Draw” prizes include Jamestown Chamber Bucks, Jamestown/ Newport Ferry tickets, and a Bailey’s Irish Cream basket. Raffle prizes include cash, an iPad Air, Oyster Bay wine basket, a restaurant gift certificate tree and many more items. The church is located at 60 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown. Shabbat at Temple Shalom
