Comedy Series Presents Jim Jefferies

By Barry Bridges

Stand-up crackerjack Jim Jefferies is due to make his mark in this season’s lineup of comic geniuses taking the Newport stage when he appears under the tent at the Yachting Center on Friday, Aug. 22, at 7:30 p.m.

Hailing from Australia, Jefferies will be making his laff fest debut in the Newport Summer Comedy Series. His solo show focuses on the universal themes of marriage and fatherhood and follows up on the success of his four comedy DVD’s: “Contraband” in 2008, “I Swear to God” in 2009, “Alcoholocaust” in 2010, and “Fully Functional” in 2012. Jefferies also created and starred in his own television series, “Legit,” which premiered on the FX cable network in 2013 and ran for two seasons.

The comedian recently told The Montreal Gazette that his show is about stories of his life. “There’s a lot of pressure in coming up with stories,” he said. “You have to delve way back into your childhood. Then you have to hope that you have a sibling that has done something really stupid. I don’t know how long I can make a living doing this. It could be a bit sad when I’m in my 70s and have run out of stories.”

Good seats are still available for Jefferies’ Aug. 22 performance. For tickets, call the Yachting Center box office at 800-745- 3000 or visit newportcomedy.com.
