Church Music at Salve

The Royal School of Church Music America course will be held at Salve Regina University the week of Aug. 4-10. The public is invited to hear the 100 choristers sing during the week at various services. Each day of the course, Morning Prayer is chanted at 8 a.m. and Compline at 9 p.m. in Salve’s Our Lady of Mercy Chapel. Two Evensongs will be held: Trinity Church on Wednesday, Aug. 6, at 5 p.m. and St. George’s Chapel on Friday, Aug. 8, at 5 p.m. The hymn festival, followed by Compline, will be offered on Thursday, Aug. 7, at St. Joseph's Church at 7:30 p.m. The closing choral festival Eucharist will be held at St. George's Chapel on Sunday, Aug. 10, at 10 a.m.

McKinney Benefit Cocktail Party

A fundraising cocktail party to benefit the McKinney Cooperative Shelter will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 13, from 6-9 p.m. at the Newport Yachting Center and Marina, 20 Commercial Wharf. UCC Calls for Musicians

If you play an instrument or sing and have wondered what it is like to minister through music and share your gift during worship, now is your chance. The United Congregational Church, 524 Valley Road, Middletown, is looking for guest musicians to perform on Sunday, Aug. 17, to play prelude, offertory, anthem, and/or postlude music. Emmanuel Book Club

The next meeting of the Emmanuel Church Book Club is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 19, at 6 p.m. The book to be discussed is “Where’d You Go, Bernadette,” by Maria Semple, not William P. Young’s “The Shack,” as previously listed. The group meets monthly in the Guild Room at the church, 42 Dearborn St. Newcomers are always welcome. WELCA Yard Sale

St. Peter’s Lutheran Church will hold its annual summer yard sale on Saturday, Aug. 16, from 9 a.m.- 1 p.m., sponsored by the Women of Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (WELCA) group. Spaces are available for rent at the sale for $20, with an additional $5 if you want a table. Donated items for the sale may be brought to the church Monday Thursday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Contact the office at 401-846-9567 for more information or to arrange for space rental. ‘Weird Animals’ Bible School

St. Barnabas Church will offer Vacation Bible School the week of Aug. 18-22, from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. The theme will be Weird Animals, celebrating the individual differences inherent in all people, and the day will include activities, songs, Bible stories, and snacks. The program is for children ages 4 and up, and the cost is $50 for one child, $90 for two, and $115 for three or more. Register by Aug. 14 by calling 401-683-1343.

Klezmer Concert at Touro

Touro Synagogue will present a concert featuring the Yiddishkeit Klezmer Ensemble on Sunday, Aug. 10, at 4:30 p.m. in celebration of Newport’s 375th anniversary. The free concert will take place in Patriots Park on Touro Street. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held in the Colony House.

UCC Summer Worship

The United Congregational Church holds summer services at 10 a.m. each Sunday and all are invited to dress casually. Families are especially welcome, and a trained staff is available to care for babies and toddlers. UCC is at 524 Valley Road in Middletown.
