ID Card Service Limited

During the week of July 21-25, the Naval Station Newport ID card section will be servicing incoming students and access by walkin traffic will be limited between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Visit rapidsappointments. dmdc.osd.mil/ to schedule an appointment and avoid delays.

Volunteers Needed

T.F. Green Airport has a military lounge and is looking for volunteers to help serve our veterans. Call Betty at 401-426-9792 for more information.

MWR is in need of volunteers to support the upcoming Sprint Triathlon on Sunday, July 27. Personnel with routine base access are invited to call 401-841-3127 for more information.

Salute to Summer

Save the date for the return of a Newport summer favorite. After a brief hiatus, the Salute to Summer will return to Naval Station Newport this year on Saturday, Aug. 23. The show will be open to the public and will include a free concert with fireworks to follow.

Meeting Scheduled

The American Legion Post 18 and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 18 will not hold a meeting this month. The next joint meeting will be at the VFW, 822 Anthony Rd., Common Fence Point in Portsmouth on Wednesday, Aug. 6, at 7 p.m. For more information, email ripost18legion@aol.com.

SENEDIA Scholarship Winner

The Southeastern New England Defense Industry Alliance (SENEDIA) identified five New England students who will receive industry scholarships at its annual meeting held recently at the Atlantic Beach Club. Fiona MacKechnie of Middletown was among the recipients. MacKechnie is currently a student at the University of Rhode Island.

Blood Drive

Navy Newport continues to support the Rhode Island Blood Center’s call for blood during the busy summer months. The Naval War College will host a drive on Tuesday, July 29, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., in Spruance Lobby. All personnel with routine base access are invited to roll up their sleeves.

Navy Band Northeast

Fans of the Navy Band Northeast are in luck as musicians from the Navy’s finest band will be playing in the area during the Black Ships Festival and Bridge- Fest. Look for them at the opening ceremony for Black Ships in Touro Park on Friday, July 18, at 10 a.m. As part of BridgeFest, the show band will play in Queen Anne Square at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 31. Also on that day at 7:30 p.m., the Crosswinds Woodwind Ensemble will play at Central Baptist Church, 99 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown.
