USSVI Meeting

The Rhode Island Base of the United States Submarine Veterans, Inc. will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, July 17, at 7 p.m. at the Rhode Island Aviation Hall of Fame, located in the USS Saratoga Museum Foundation Building, 6854 Post Road, North Kingstown. Veterans Job Fair

O’Club Music

The Officers’ Club summer concert series will continue Friday and Saturday evenings throughout the summer, with music on the deck beginning at 5:30 p.m. Wayz & Means offers contemporary and classic hits on Friday, July 11, and The Islanders play easy listening and classic rock and roll on Saturday, July 12. The Becky Chace Band rocks on Friday, July 18, and on July 19 Mike Hohmann plays acoustic and folk music. All hands with base access are welcome to attend. For more information, call 401-841-1442.

School Physicals

July is a great month to get school and sports physicals completed. Contact the Call Center at 1-888-NAVY-MED to book an appointment now to avoid the rush as the beginning of the school year approaches.

Blood Drives

Navy Newport continues to support the Rhode Island Blood Center’s call for blood during the busy summer months. Surface Warfare Officers School will host a drive on Thursday, July 17, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., in the school’s Cruiser Room. The Bloodmobile will at Navy Federal Credit Union on Tuesday, July 15, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and at Officer Training Command in front of Callaghan Hall on Thursday, July 17, 2-5 p.m.

School Age Care Registration

The Naval Station Newport School Age Care Center is registering for the 2014-2015 school year. In-house patrons may register July 14-18, active duty families July 21-23, and DoD civilians and contractors beginning July 24. Register at the center, bldg. 1297, 6:15 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Youth must be entering full day kindergarten through 12 years of age.

School Age Care hours are 6:15- 8:30 a.m. and 2:30-5:30 p.m. The program offers transportation between the center and the following schools: Pell Elementary, All Saints Academy, Forest Ave. Elementary, Melville Elementary, Aquidneck Ave. Elementary, Portsmouth Middle School and Gaudet Middle School. At the time of registration, the following is required: current Leave and Earning Statement and spouse's pay stub or proof of full-time student status; Family Care Plan (if single active duty parent or dual military); $50 nonrefundable deposit per child (applicable towards first payment); completed enrollment forms; and documentation of influenza vaccine within the last school year.
