Officer Graduations

Officer Training Command will hold two graduations on Friday, July 18, in Kay Hall. Officer Development School will graduate 175 new members of the staff corps at an 8:30 a.m. ceremony. Capt. Maureen Pennington, Nurse Corps, commanding officer of Naval Health Clinic New England, will address the graduates.

Later that morning, Officer Candidate School will commission 76 new ensigns at 10:30 a.m. The guest speaker has not been announced. For more information, call 401-841-1171.

Six Flags Free to Military

All active and retired military personnel will be admitted to Six Flags New England free of charge July 4-6, with valid ID. The park will feature fireworks displays nightly during the holiday weekend. Discount tickets for family members may be purchased at the naval station’s Leisure Bay Coffee Shop or Seaview Lanes Bowling Center during normal hours of operation.

Pool Closure

The John H. Chafee Fitness Center Pool will be closed from Friday, July 4, through Sunday, July 6. For more information, call 401-841- 3154.

Fourth of July Fun

The Officers’ Club will hold a Fourth of July celebration from 4-10 p.m., featuring entertainment by The Driftwoods, a Beach Boys tribute band, and a special Fourth of July buffet with all the traditional favorites. The cost is $15 for adults, $11 for youth 8-12, and $8 for ages 4-7. All hands with base access are welcome to attend. For more information, call 401-841-1442.

Coddington Cove Open Water Swim

MWR will hold open water swim sessions on July 7, 14 and 21 at 5 p.m. and July 9, 16 and 23 at 11:45 a.m. in preparation for the July 27 Sprint Triathlon’s swim component. The swims are open to active duty personnel, retirees, reservists, eligible family members, and DoD employees with base access. Advance sign-up is mandatory because of staffing requirements. Military Appreciation Night at the Gulls

The Raytheon Corporation will sponsor Military Appreciation Night at the Newport Gulls baseball game on Wednesday, July 16, at 6:35 p.m. The Gulls will take on the Laconia Muskrats at Cardines Field. Admission is free for all military personnel.
