‘Quarter ‘Til with Bach and Friends’

Take a 15-minute break during your weekends this summer to enjoy an organ meditation of music at Saint John the Evangelist by Bach and another composer, played on the church’s Hook and Hastings organ. Watch Peter S. Berton’s hands as he plays, via video, at 8:45 and 11:45 a.m. and 2:45, 5:45, and 8:45 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays until Labor Day. A donation of 25 cents is requested to benefit the organ restoration fund.

UCC Summer Camp Canceled

United Congregational Church in Middletown has had to cancel the “Whirled Peas” summer camp scheduled for July 7-18. For more information, call the church at 401-849-5444.

Financial Peace at Calvary

Rev. Dr. Amy Alletzhauser will offer the Financial Peace University workshop at Calvary Methodist Church, beginning on Tuesday, July 8. Classes will run for nine weeks from 6-7:30 p.m. at 200 Turner Road, Middletown. Space is limited. Call 401-847-6181 for more information.

Emmanuel Book Club

The next meeting of the Emmanuel Church Book Club will be on Tuesday, July 15, at 6 p.m. The group will discuss “Water for Elephants,” by Sara Gruen. CBC Inspired by Pixar

Films from Pixar’s animation studios will inspire creative ways of imagining love during a monthlong focus at Jamestown’s Central Baptist Church.

Each Sunday during July the congregation will explore different aspects of love through the lens of “WALL-E,” “Monsters, Inc.,” “Finding Nemo,” and the “Toy Story” trilogy.

“We tend to shift gears a bit each summer,” said Rev. Kathryn Palen, CBC pastor. “In the past we have used the American classic To Kill a Mockingbird, films by Clint Eastwood, the music of Bruce Springsteen, Bono and the Beatles, and the stories of Luke Skywalker, Frodo, Harry Potter and Buffy the Vampire Slayer as springboards for our worship services.”

Emmanuel Lawn Fete

Emmanuel Church’s popular Lawn Fete will return on Saturday, July 12, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Proceeds from the current event will benefit outreach programs and provide funding for a wide range of assistance programs in the island community. Non-perishable food items will be collected for the Salvation Army.

Moonrise Kingdom’ at Trinity

Trinity Church will show a screening of “Moonrise Kingdom” on Wednesday, July 23, at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. Trinity features prominently in the film and several scenes were shot in and around the historic church.

St. Lucy’s Save the Date

Saint Lucy’s Annual Parish Appreciation Picnic will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 5, from 5:30-8:30 p.m., rain or shine. The picnic will include prizes, games, face painting, and more. Opera at Emmanuel

The Marley Bridges Theatre Company will present “The Telephone (L’amour a trois),” a comic one-act opera by Gian Carlo Menotti, on Wednesday, July 9, at Emmanuel Church. The program, which begins at 7 p.m., will also include American art songs by Giannini, Barber, Bernstein, Quilter and Foster. Soprano Kristi De Las Angeles and baritone Louis Seymour will perform, with Mike Kregler on piano. Admission is $10. For more information, call 401-847-0675.
