For What It’s Worth

Mr. Santi: My family came from Fall River in the early 20th century. We have an old Fall River Atlas dated 1883 from my family. It is in pretty rough shape but all the pages are there, it’s just very loose. What is it worth? — Philip C. Philip: Many American cities produced atlas’s depicting street maps and engravings of prominent homes and businesses. Condition is important; however, often plates of mills and mansions get removed and framed. Despite the condition of your atlas, a collector would pay around $300.
