For What It’s Worth

Mr. Santi I found this pair of old eyeglasses while going through a jewelry box that belonged to my mother. Are they worth anything? I think that they are pretty old. Edward N. Edward: Your old eyeglasses are actually called pince-nez (French “to pinch”): no arms and clip onto the nose and reached its peak of popularity around 1885. Generally they have modest value (under $100) but when made of gold, usually 10k or 14K their value can exceed $200. I have a pair that my father wore in the 1930’s for formal occasions and I can tell you, they are not comfortable to wear but after an hour, your nose becomes numb and you don’t notice it so much.
