Vincent J. Arnold, 83,

of Middletown, passed away peacefully at Newport Hospital on April 14, 2014 following a period of declining health. He was the husband of the late Joan Christman Arnold. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Korean Conflict. He was a founder of the Museum of Newport Irish History and served as its president from the organization’s founding until his death. In addition to activities related to Irish heritage and history, he was active in numerous other civic activities over the years.

He is survived by his six children and their spouses: James (Karen) of Portsmouth, William and David (Julie) of Mass., Ann Arnold (Timothy May) of Newport, Kathleen (Carl) Gallagher of Tiverton, and Karen (Steve) Ellsworth of N.Y. and 12 grandchildren. Calling hours will be on Easter Monday, April 21, from 4-7 p.m. at O’Neill-Hayes Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on April 22 at St. Lucy’s Church, Middletown.
