Lenten Programming

Many area churches are offering special Lenten programming through mid-April.

St. John the Evangelist hosts “Through Lent with C.S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and The Wardrobe” Friday, April 4 at the Guild Hall, 61 Poplar St., meal at 6:30 p.m., program follows, 401-848-2561.

St. John the Evangelist, Sunday, April 6, Bishops’ Preaching Series, Hays Rockwell, Bishop of the Diocese of Missouri, from 1992- 2002, 8 and 10 a.m., 401-848-2561.

Trinity Church, Queen Anne Square, Wednesday, April 9, “The Interaction of Life and Faith” with Rear Adm. Barbara McGann, interim superintendent of Portsmouth schools, refreshments at 7 p.m., presentation at 7:30 p.m., 401-846-0660.

Emmanuel Church, 42 Dearborn St., Wednesday, April 9, “Embracing Spiritual Awakening,” 6:45 p.m., begins with light meal of soup and bread, 401-847-0675.

St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 324 East Main Rd. in Portsmouth, Wednesday, April 9, “Five Hymns that Changed the World,” soup and bread supper at 6 p.m., followed by a 6:45 p.m. program, smcportsmouth.org.
