Tech Savvy at Thompson

Thompson Middle School seventh graders Ben Pratt and Aubrey Baker work on their AM and FM radio project with mentor Mike Cullen for the inaugural Thompson Techno Expo on Saturday, March 1. Fifty-five students in grades 5-8 partnered with Newport Information Technology Working Group and community volunteers to explore STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) concepts as they relate to everyday activities. In the culminating event of this after school project, the students will present their work in 3-D printing, cybersecurity, fiber optics, and telecommunications. The Expo runs from 12-2 p.m., and the public is invited to meet the technology leaders of tomorrow.
