n People’s Credit Union
The People’s Credit Union is offering two kinds of scholarships.
An 8th grade scholarship will be
awarded in the amount of $500 in
each town where People’s has an
office. The recipients of the scholarship will have a chance to increase
the scholarship amount each year
of high school to a maximum of
$1,000. The scholarship will increase by $50 for every final grade
that is an A and $25 for every final
9th grade. Deadline is April 30.
Students who are members of
People’s Credit Union or whose
parent(s) or guardian(s) are members are eligible to apply for one
of the eight $500 Credit Union Association of Rhode Island scholarships. This scholarship is for fulltime students currently enrolled
in or accepted to a college or university undergraduate program for
the 2014 school year. Deadline is
April 2.

of People’s six branch locations.

n Land Trust Environmental
Leadership Award
Seniors enrolled at any Aquidneck Island high school are eligible
for this $1,000 merit award from the
Aquidneck Land Trust. The award
supports young leaders who inspire our island community around
land conservation and environmentalism. Nominations will only
be accepted from Aquidneck Island
school faculty or staff. For more information, visit ailt.org.

n Elks Vocational
Students planning to pursue a
vocational/technical program leading to a terminal two year degree or
technical certificate are eligible to
compete for one of six $600 grants
offered by the R.I. State Elks Association. This scholarship is open to
all pursuing vocational training or
certificates regardless of age. All
applicants must be a citizen of the
United States.
Additionally, the Alger Memorial
Scholarship has been established
within the Newport Lodge. This
$1,000 scholarship is available for
students in the Newport area meeting the requirements of the R.I. State
Elks Association Vocational Scholarship. The Newport Scholarship
Committee will also consider nontwo year vocations such as nursing.

Applications must be submitted
to the Newport Lodge by April 1.

n Kohl’s Cares Scholarship
Nominate a young volunteer for
up to $10,000 in scholarships. Applications accepted through March
14. Since the Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program began in 2001, Kohl’s
has recognized more than 19,500
kids with more than $3.9 million in
scholarships and prizes.
