Health and Safety Classes

The Newport County YMCA will be offering numerous health and safety classes in January. * A CPR/AED First Aid class will be offered Thursday, Jan. 9 at 6 p.m. and on the second Thursdays of subsequent months. This is a Red Cross class that covers lay responder adult, child and infant CPR, AED and standard First Aid. * Lifeguard training will be given on Sundays, Jan. 12, 19 and 26 from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. This is a Red Cross blended learning class that has online, classroom and pool sessions. Elements of the R.I. surf test will be included. Upon completion of all segments, participants will be certified in waterfront/ pool lifeguarding, CPR/ AED PRO and first aid. Lifeguard re-certifications are also offered. * Baby sitter training will be offered Monday, Jan. 20 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. This is a Red Cross class that teaches the basics of baby-sitting. Child care, first aid and the business of baby-sitting are among the other topics that will be discussed. * Swimming lessons: Next sessions begin Jan. 6 for Parent/ Child (6 to 36 months), Preschool (3 to 6 yr. olds), Youth (6 to 15 yr. olds), Swim Team, adult and private lessons. * Aquatics Summer Camps: Offerings will include Surfing Camp, Water Sports, Jr. Lifeguard and Swim Team. Sign-ups begin in February.
