Family Service of Rhode Island’s work with needy children, adults and families received a healthy boost in its funding with the success of its recent “Brighter Futures” luncheon held at the Rhode Island Convention Center.

More than $190,000 was raised at the one-hour event, the largest amount in the luncheon’s nine-year history. It was also the most successful fundraising event in the recent history of the nonprofit, which was founded in 1892.

The Brighter Futures Award, presented this year to Providence Mayor Angel Taveras, is given annually to an individual or organization making an outstanding contribution to the well-being of children.

Major sponsors include, in addition to Hasbro, Inc., the de Ramel Foundation; GTECH; William Vareika Fine Arts; KLR (Kahn, Litwin, Renza & Co.); Hinckley Allen; the Corvias Foundation; the Citizens Bank Foundation; Dimeo Construction; National Grid; the Providence Journal Charitable Fund; Bank of America; and NBC 10.

Family Service of R.I. is a statewide human service and education agency. More information about the organization’s work is available at familyserviceri.org.
