Serious Stewards

To the Editor:

In response to a letter published in the Dec. 5 issue of Newport This Week:

Bike Newport is a nonprofit domestic corporation registered in the state of Rhode Island. As we have previously informed Mr. Albrecht, Bike Newport is not [yet] a tax-exempt organization and therefore is not required to file IRS Form 990. Our fiscal sponsor for charitable donations is Social Venture Partners Rhode Island, a 501(c) (3) charitable organization.

We, the members of the Board of Directors of Bike Newport, take our job as stewards of this organization very seriously. We can assure the readers of Newport This Week that all documents are filed and all protocol is followed.

We are respected members of the community and we donate our time as directors of Bike Newport because we believe in the organization’s vision, program and leadership. We are exceptionally proud of the organization’s leadership and the progress that we’ve made in delivering on our mission to improve and encourage bicycling in and around Newport.
