Busy Downtown Committee

The Committee for Downtown Christmas Decorations has completed decorations in the downtown Newport area. Two spruce trees – one in Eisenhower Park, the “official” Christmas In Newport tree, and one at the bottom of Washington Square have been lighted with a total of 12,000 clear lights. Also, 65 wreaths with red bows have been installed on lamp posts from Washington Square, Touro St.,Thames St. to Queen Anne Square. In addition this year, tree trunks and planters along Thames Street next to Brick Market Place have been lighted with over 2,000 clear lights.

This effort is made possible by donations from downtown businesses and also by volunteer help from The Preservation Society of Newport County, Reagan Construction Co., Bartlett Tree Experts, and Capt. Ray Gomes NFD, Ret.

Committee members are David Leys, Kathleen Vanderveer, Mark Goldrick, David Bolusky, and Roy Lauth.
